What is LUPRON DEPOT?

LUPRON DEPOT is in the class of hormonal therapyHormonal therapyTreatment with drugs that interfere with hormone production or hormone action, or the surgical removal of hormone-producing glands. drugs called gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonistsGnRH agonistsThese are synthetically made hormones, chemically similar to natural gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). With continuous use in men, they block the production of the male hormone testosterone by the testicles and are frequently used in the palliative treatment of advanced prostate cancer. (also called GnRH agonists or GnRHa).

Although LUPRON DEPOT is not a cure for advanced prostate cancer, you and your doctor may choose LUPRON DEPOT as part of your treatment plan to suppress testosterone that may cause testosterone-dependent prostate cancer cells to grow.
