Eat healthy, keep moving, and stay positive during treatment
It’s always important to take care of yourself and do all that you can keep healthy. The following tips can help you make good choices when it comes to eating and physical activity. Your doctor and/or nutritionist can help provide specific recommendations. And remember, these suggestions made by your healthcare team are to help you, so do your best to follow the recommended plan.
Healthy eating1
Eating well should be an important part of your care plan, so work with your doctor and/or nutritionist to see if following may be appropriate for you:
- Eat a plant-based diet (vegetables, fruit, beans, whole grains)
- Choose foods low in fat and low in salt
- Get to and stay a healthy weight
Staying active2
Being physically active is one of the best things you can do for your body, especially as you age. Some exercises to consider:
- Aerobic exercises improve the health of your heart, lungs, and circulatory system
- Muscle-strengthening exercises can help you stay independent and prevent fall-related injuries
- Balance exercises help prevent falls and can improve stability
Be sure to talk to your doctor before starting any type of exercise routine.
Staying positive1
Learning about prostate cancer and what you can do to treat it can be one way to maintain a positive attitude.
- Studies have shown that physical activity can improve mental health and emotional well-being
Always let your doctor know about any physical activity you plan on starting.
Individual results may vary.
