COMMUNITY SUPPORT
With many communities ready to offer support, you never have to be alone
Benefits of Support Communities
We get it—just talking about prostate cancer can be difficult. It’s a personal experience that you may want to keep private. Support communities give you the opportunity to talk and spend time with other men who understand firsthand what you’re going through. Although you may have never thought about joining a group before, a prostate cancer support community can offer you:
- A chance to talk about your disease and ask questions
- Insight into coping with your advanced prostate cancer, managing side effects, and adjusting your diet and lifestyle
- A supportive environment to recognize milestones in your treatment journey
- Help navigating practical problems, such as getting to and from doctor visits
Questions and Considerations for Joining a Support Community
- How large is the group?
- Who attends (survivors, family members, others?)
- Is it specifically for prostate cancer?
- What is the age range?
- How long are the meetings?
- How often does the group meet?
- How long has the group been together?
- Who leads the group?
- What is the format of the meetings?
